Here is what you do:

Go for a run/jog/walk.

Track your miles.

1 mile = 1 non-perishable food item

Write your initials on the food product.*

Deposit your non-perishable food items into a food donation barrel at your local grocer or take them to a local food bank.

Learn where you can donate food and what items are needed most by going to the FAQ.

*Why? First, it's fun. It makes you think of preparing for summer camp when you had to write your intials into the tag of all your clothes, right? Second, it makes a connection with the person receiving the food. All of a sudden it isn't a corporation or a retailer's surplus food stock that is landing on a plate, but one individual reaching out to help another. If writing your initials still seems strange or uncomfortable you can write 'R4F' (=Running for Food) on the item in the spirit of helping out members in your community.

Miles to Mouths

The average half-marathon training program lasts 9 weeks and includes 280 miles of running.

280 miles of running = 280 non-perishable food items

25cents per food item * 280 miles = $70 dollars total

A little less than $8/week
