Taking my yoga poses on the road
I never appreciated the benefits of yoga until I started training for the ING NYC Marathon.
For some incredible reason I no longer hurt when I strike a yoga pose. I no longer get bored (maybe because nothing can top the boredom from a two hour long run? Ok, in truth I haven’t gotten bored yet while out on a long run and that to me is REALLY surprising.) practicing the stretches.
I feel more limber and more relaxed physically than I ever have – which is saying a lot for someone who has long considered themselves a pretzel stick in a world full of pretzel twists.

Never Run Alone: A Beginner's Guide to Finding a Sponsor
Never Run Alone - Part IV - Find a Sponsor
No run for me tonight. I’m fighting off the beginnings of a cold that I picked up from a co-worker, I’ve been sucking down orange juice since I woke up this morning, and will be heading to bed long before sunset. This is easier to do when my night owl of a BH is away – he’s up in Wisconsin with friends for the evening. And I am left with my thoughts…and my rest day.
Here is what I know – I like running.
It doesn’t matter whether I’m running 3 miles, 6 miles,…the number before the word miles is irrelevant.
40th ING New York City Marathon 2009
Let the training begin!
The 40th ING New York Marathon had well over 100,000 applicants for this year’s road race. On June 3rd, in celebration of National Running Day, the New York Road Runners drew the names for this year's run.
Sidelined by calf pain
I will not be running for several days. It pains me to report.
Actually, my calf pain is what pains me, especially my left calf muscle(s). I'm hoping that I’m at a point in my life where I no longer feel the need to 'push' through my pain and workout in a manner that seems more like self-flagellation than pleasure.
